About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure However, they resurface with their fourth album Isolation with two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made Toto a household name across the world.
After a break of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is an departure from the ballads on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. The album was their first to go platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and record a new album with an entirely new producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto returned for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time all the original Toto members appeared performing together for over 31 years. The original members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
